Gluten Free French Bread

French Bread

Ingredients

  • 400g Doves Farm (or other GF ) Bread Flour
  • 3tsp Xantham Gum
  • 1  1/2 tsp Salt
  • 375ml warm water
  • 2tbsp caster sugar
  • 2tbsp yeast
  • 3 egg whites (beaten)
  • 2tbsp melted butter + extra for glazing
  • 1tsp vinegar

 

Method for the Sauce

  1. Set the oven to 200 C.
  2. In a mixing bowl add the flour, xantham gum and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl dissolve the sugar in warm water.  Mix in the yeast and leave to foam for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the melted butter, egg white, vinegar and yeast mixture to the flour.
  5. Beat with an electric whisk on high for 3 minutes.
  6. The mixture is sloppier than normal bread dough – don’t worry about this – just spoon into your tin or baguette pan and shape out by pressing lightly with the back of a spoon.
  7. Use a pastry brush to paint on melted butter and put into the oven for 35-45 minutes or until crispy and golden.
