In 2019, Culture Consultants – Rising Vibe launched their Calling Out The Men programmes, focused on the ongoing conversation to highlight the need for emotional support for men in the workplace.
Work is the second biggest trigger point for male depression behind relationship breakdown. Men are much less likely to seek help in the workplace. Why? Because the organisational culture doesn’t support it, and the leaders often don’t know where to start. So it’s easier not to start.
As we near the end of Movember awareness month we wanted to remind/inform all our hospitality network of Rising Vibe’s Calling Out The Men approach and, importantly, in our often high-pressured / fast-paced hospitality environments, highlight the need to keep men’s mental health on the radar ongoing, outside of awareness days and campaigns. The conversation needs to become part of everyday workplace culture.
The levels of stress and pressure in hospitality is significant. According to research, more than 80% of hospitality workers report feeling stressed at work at some point, yet more than half prefer not to talk about this with their boss. And we know that men in particular struggle to talk about emotions.
