Edible rice straws are being developed in Malaysia as an alternative to the plastic/paper options currently available. Following the UK Government announcing the ban on plastic straws by April 2020 perhaps this is another option to consider?

Alternative straws made from pasta, wheat and other plant based materials are also available. There is still the need to be mindful of cross contamination and labelling when using these alternatives.
