About Us

Food Allergy Aware was founded in 2012 by Caroline Benjamin. It was started due to a lack of specialist services and knowledge around special dietary requirements, including allergies, coeliac disease and food intolerance’s 

We are now in our 9th year and we have worked with a variety of businesses across all sectors including the following examples:

  • Cruise liners
  • Health Care Trusts
  • Pub chains
  • Leading High street restaurants
  • Garden centres
  • Education – Primary and secondary schools
  • Colleges – Catering students:

We work with businesses to review their current position and look at ways to enhance their allergen processes and policies.

We offer consultancy, auditing, training (HABC, CIEH or bespoke), events and workshops, all of which can be tailored to the specific sector and/or business.

From our audits and reviews we able to offer a full report, templates and bespoke documents with recommendations to ensure that you are not only compliant but can go the extra mile!

We are also able to offer Food Safety Training and Sally Trice, our lead consultant has over 35 years’ experience in the hospitality and food safety industry and is able to offer HABC, CIEH levels 1 – 3 in Food Safety and HACCP training.  We can also develop training bespoke to your operation and both Sally & Caroline developed the resources for the RSPH Level 2 Award in Identifying and Controlling Food Allergy Risks

Our consultants are available to speak at industry events or produce articles for the hospitality industry covering all aspects of allergen management, in the past, we have worked with the following sectors and organisations.

In 2019 Food Allergy Aware was proud to accept the ‘Company of the Year Award  from the Society of Food Hygiene and Technology.  This year we are developing a training session for their members ‘Allergen Management for Hospitality Made Easy’.  To book your space on the next course in February 2021 click here.

We also run allergen specific industry events In March 2019 we ran a face to face  Mock Trial Food Allergy Prosecution event and in May 2021 we ran a similar online event.  We are planning future events to be the first to find out sign up for our Monthly Newsletter.

In summary, our aim is to help the food service industry improve the experience of dining out for those customers who have coeliac disease, food allergies and food intolerance’s. With our in-depth knowledge of the catering industry, along with years of personal experience in the training and organisational world, we are perfectly suited to push forward and give food businesses an insight as to how they can increase their business turnover and customer base by up to 25%.
